Portrait of Isabella Saint

Isabella Saint

I photograph interiors the way I'd photograph a face: for what a space reveals when it stops performing for the camera. The way afternoon light crosses a floor. The quiet a room keeps when no one is in it.

My work moves between the considered stillness of an empty room and the closeness of a portrait. I shoot on location and in studio, in daylight wherever possible, and I care more about what's true in a frame than what's tidy.

Over the last decade my photographs have appeared in editorial and commercial contexts across Europe. I'm based in London and work internationally.

Approach

A room will always tell you more than a set. I wait for it to forget the camera is there.

No heavy styling, no borrowed drama. I work slowly, in natural light, and let the material of a space (plaster, timber, stone, glass) do the talking.
